Obituary: Gloria Woodman, Lifelong Malden Resident

Woodman died Friday, June 20.

Gloria I. (Castillo) Woodman, of Malden, died peacefully Friday, June 20, 2014, on her 91st Birthday.

Beloved wife and best friend for 72 years of John Woodman of Malden. Born June 20, 1923 in Somerville, she was the cherished daughter of the late Rev. Jose M. Castillo and Sarah B. Castillo.  She was a lifelong resident of Malden and graduate from Malden High School with the Class of 1941, after which she worked in State Street Boston law firms, first as a secretary for Badger, Pratt, Doyle & Badger, then later as office manager for Badger, Sullivan, Kelley & Cole, retiring in 1993. She was an active member and life deaconess of Maplewood Baptist Church, and music director for 36 years.

She was the loving mother of Deanna Joyce Johnstone and her husband David of Kaaawa, Hawaii, and Gloria Jean Fixler and her husband Richard of Chester, New Hampshire.  Devoted grandmother of Matthew Joseph Woodman Fixler and his wife Amber of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire, Marissa Beth Ohler and her husband Chaplain Capt. Rev. William Ohler of Northumberland, Pennsylvania, Joshua David Fixler and his wife Marjorie of Nottingham, New Hampshire, and Zachary Josiah Fixler and his wife Hannah of Penndel, Pennsylvania.  She was the devoted great-grandmother of eight great-grandchildren. Gloria was also blessed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Eliot S. Castillo.

A funeral service will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at noon. Burial will follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home two hours prior to the funeral service from 10 a.m. to noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Maplewood Baptist Church, 729 Salem St., Malden.
