Obituary: Donato Tavano, Lived in Malden for 55 Years

Tavano died Sunday, Feb. 23.

Donato Tavano, 83, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014.

He was born in Panni, Foggia, Italy on April 12, 1930 to his parents Sebastiano and Filomena (Paglia) Tavano. Donato was raised and educated in Italy. He moved to Montreal, Canada, at the age of 21 and then moved to the United States. He has been a resident of Malden for the past 55 years. Donato worked as a carpenter for Local 33 for over 55 years. He was an avid gardener and woodworker. First and foremost, he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 55 years and with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mary I. (Cocciardi) Tavano; by his children: MaryAnn McCarthy and her husband Michael of Doylestown, Pa., and Phyllis DeNisco and her husband John of Malden; by his grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Anthony and Michelle; and by his siblings: Vito Tavano of Montreal, Mario Tavano of Vancouver and Clelia Rendinella of Montreal. Along with his parents, Donato was predeceased by his brothers Paola and Violante Tavano.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden, on Friday, Feb. 28, at 8 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 9 a.m. Services will conclude with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 4-8 p.m.
