Valley Forum, Malden MA

PEEWEE (11-12 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 1, East Coast Wizards 2

Cronin Rink, Revere MA

Hard fought loss for the ever improving Peewees as this one was scoreless for a period and a half thanks to the strong goaltending of Anthony Bocchino. Marc Giodarno lit the lamp in the 3rd period and M.E.B. pressed hard and left it all on the ice.

Malden/East Boston 2, Parkway 2

Devine Rink, Dorchester MA

Peewees showed what team work looks like in a tie game with Parkway. Corey Rufo drew first blood halfway through the first and John Bernbaum potted one minutes later on a rail pass from Marc Giodarno. 2-0 M.E.B. at the end of 1 and it stayed that way until the 3rd when Parkway get some momentum going and scored two quick ones to tie it up and take away goaltender Kevin Ivany’s hard fought shutout opportunity. M.E.B. pressed and a goal that was no goal by Marc Giodarno with seconds left kept this one a tie.

BANTAM AA (13-14 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 4, Lynnfield/Saugus 3

Kasabuski Arena, Saugus MA

The Mustangs traveled to Saugus on Saturday to take on the Lynnfield/Saugus Bantam A team in what turned out to be a physical, penalty-filled game. Marty Taylor had the first goal for the Mustangs but it didn't take long for Lynnfield/Saugus to make the score 1-1. The Mustangs responded at the end of the first period with two goals within seconds of one another. The second goal of the game was scored by Mike Giordano, with an assist by Thomas Guarino. Curtis Taddeo put in the third goal, with an assist by Giordano. The Mustangs ended the first period on top by a score of 3-1. The second period started off slow, but quickly picked up with a goal by Carson Tully with an assist and a great individual effort from Ryan Goggin. Lynnfield/Saugus responded toward the end of the 2nd period and closed in on the Mustangs with a goal making the score 4-2.

Halfway through the 3rd period, Lynnfield/Saugus scored and attempted to steal the win from the Mustangs. But the team rallied and they were able to defend their net, allowing for a 4-3 win.

BANTAM AAA (13-14 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 6, Winthrop 0

Valley Rink, Malden MA

The M.E.B. Bantam AAA squad faced off against the boys from Winthrop and Winthrop didn’t know what hit them in a completely lop-sided contest. Ryan Noonan introduced the M.E.B. skill level with a 1st period dazzle swinging in wide and just destroying the top corner with an epic roofer and entered the 2nd with one goal lead.

Noonan sent a beautiful pass from behind the opponents net on to the stick of James Pandolfo, who didn’t hesitate in putting M.E.B. up by 2. Louis Staffieri provided another nice shot just below the cross pipe to take M.E.B. into the 3rd up by 3. The M.E.B. Bantam’s don’t take the 3rd period lightly and it was evident as they boys continued solid pressure and a great down low, offensive zone cycle leading to a goal by Noah Carlson. The constant hard work paid off big with a goal set up by a crashing Mike Defillipo banging in the neutral zone which led Anthony Cecca and Jonah Carlson in on a 2 on 0. Cecca selflessly sent the puck over to Carlson who in returned the favor, sending the Winthrop goalie to South Carolina and Cecca sending the puck on a first class trip to back of the net. Finally, the point man was utilized nicely in the Winthrop zone with Nick Salgado sending a nice high wrist shot from the point into the top of the net to finish out the game and sealing an M.E.B. victory.

MIDGET (15-18 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 2, Everett 0

Connery Rink, Lynn MA

Midgets finish off their abbreviated season 9-1-1 and took 2nd place in the Valley League Tier 2 East. M.E.B. would like to thank Coach Tamagna all the players for their hard work and wish them all a great high school season.
