Mite K (5-8 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 11, Melrose 12

Kasabuski Arena, Saugus MA

The Mite K team dropped a close game to Melrose on Sunday 12-11. Cristian Monge played a great game in goal keeping the score close. Hat tricks for Chris Cecca, Jake Simpson, Jackie Summers, along with a pair of goals from Chris Hanifan rounded out the scoring. This was Mite K's first game in the Elite Division and they held their own against a Melrose team that had previously beat them by 6 goals.

SQUIRT (9-10 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 5, Reading 2

Kasabuski Arena, Saugus MA

Reading drew first blood and it stayed a 0-1 game until the end of the 1st period when Cal Baglio tied it up, unassisted. In the 2nd period M.E.B. took the lead on a Brendan Curtis goal assisted by Nick Summers. Reading came right back and tied it up 2-2-. The 3rd period was all M.E.B. with Andrew Hallihan scoring unassisted and yet another goal by Curtis assisted by Hallihan. Liam Horkan put one in as time expired and M.E.B skated away with the win.

PEEWEE (11-12 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 2, Wellesley 5

Valley Rink, Malden MA

The M.E.B. Peewees skated against Wellesley, who got the early lead on what could only be called fluke goals and through two periods it was 0-3. As the 3rd period began John Bernbaum won the faceoff, got control of the puck and fired one in from 20 ft. out to put M.E.B. on the board 1-3. After not one but two whistles where the referee lost sight of the puck, in spite of the fact that M.E.B. had control and was pressing, Wellesley took one back and made it 1-4. M.E.B. kept fighting and halfway through the 3rd period Shamus Royds sniped one past a red hot Wellesley goalie to make it 2-4. The Peewees kept fighting, even pulling their goalie, Kevin Ivany, with two minutes left in the 3rd to get the 6-5 advantage but Wellesley got a shot off on the empty net and the final was 2-5. It was a great shooting effort by M.E.B. who put thirty plus shots on net but just couldn’t find enough holes.

Malden/East Boston 3, Wakefield 10

Connery Arena, Lynn MA

The Peewees, coming off of a tough loss on Saturday, were thrown right back into it first thing Sunday morning. Despite another great shooting effort by the Peewees they fell to Wakefield. There were goals from Shamus Royds, assisted by Mark Giordano, a tough fight in the crease by Corey Rufo to light the lamp and a Ryan Gray end to end to deke out the Wakefield goalie. The team never game up and played classy despite a rough time from the opposition.

BANTAM AA (13-14 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 4, Lexington/Bedford 1

Valley Forum, Malden MA

The M.E.B. Bantam AA’s defeated Lexington/Bedford. Carson Tully started the scoring with an unassisted goal midway through the first period. M.E.B. struck again about a minute later, this time it was Mike Giordano collecting a Ryan Tosto pass and beating the Lex/Bedford goaltender high to the glove side with a beautiful shot. Giordano scored his second goal of the game unassisted about a minute later to give M.E.B. a 3-1 lead.  Lex/Bedford got on the board early in the third period, before Marty Taylor closed out the scoring with an unassisted empty-netter with 29 seconds remaining in the game. It was another strong team effort by the Mustangs, with Thomas Guarino making several key saves throughout the contest.
