The Mystic Valley Girls’ Varsity Soccer team finished the regular season with an 11-3-4 record winning a second CAC small division championship and securing a third consecutive state tournament berth.
The last three games of the season saw the Lady Eagles beat PMA and tie Pope John and Chelsea High. Mystic Valley did not lose any small division games this season. The defense really came of age this year which is why they only lost three games all year.
With junior captain Jackie Lane in goal, Mystic Valley conceded only 14 goals in 18 games! Lane recorded a school record 10 shutouts this season with the help of starting defenders Kathryn McPherson, Krystiannna DiMaro, Amanda Kerner and Vanessa Barrientos.
Offensively, Mystic Valley scored 49 goals this season, with sophomore Katarina Diplacido recording a school record 16 goals in 18 regular season games.
Major scoring contributions were also made by senior captain Ariana Mirzakashani, Samantha Rizzo, Sydney Carlino, and Vanessa Kreis. The midfield was held together by Feliciana Panza, who provided great vision and range of passing along with excellent dead ball delivery all season.
The team will only be graduating one senior and included four eighth graders, so it will bring back a strong nucleus next year.
As a sixth seed in the state tournament, the team will host a 1st round playoff game for the first time at Malden Catholic.
The game against Marian High School is scheduled for Saturday, November 5th at 2:30. This will be the first time ever that a Mystic Valley soccer team has played a home game.
