Mystic Valley Cross Country Falls to Greater Lowell

The Mystic Valley boys and girls cross country teams were both defeated by Greater Lowell Technical High School on Monday afternoon. The girls lost a heartbreaking race by a score of 27-28, while the boys were defeated by a score of 19-42.

The girls race was the closest in competition all season long, with the Lady Eagles taking places 1, 4, 5, 8, and 10 while Greater Lowell took 2,3,6,7,and 9. The race was highlighted by Sophomore Brittany Lin who finished number 1 overall with a time of 24:14. She was followed by Junior Elise Sheehan (4th place overall, 25:46) and Sophomore Vanessa LoChirco (5th place overall, 26:20).

The boys team was led by Senior Pat Moran who came in 4th place overall at 19:17, followed soon after by Sophomore Pat McPherson (5th place overall, 19:32).

After the race Coach, Jon Bush, said “it was a tough loss for the Girls team, but just like one person doesn’t win a meet for us, one person doesn’t lose it either. Greater Lowell has a strong cross country program and we have proven that we can run with the best of them.”

Mystic Valley Boys’ Soccer Plays to Scoreless Tie

The Mystic Valley boys’ soccer team played North Shore – Essex Agricultural COOP to a 0-0 on Friday. “The boys played a fantastic game with a lot of great opportunities and are starting to work very well as a team” said Coach Carlos-Luis Brown after the game.

The Eagles needed the point as they are in the middle of the tough part of their schedule. On Tuesday they lost to powerhouse St. Mary’s at the Manning Bowl by a score of 3-0. Goalie Michael Russo-Penta held off a very strong offensive unit with over 52 saves in the game.

“The story for the last two games has been the defense. Giuseppe Iacovone, Joseph Dailey, Elvent Chenh Tu and Christopher Poulos have been a very solid set of backs and making it very difficult for teams to shoot at close range. The offense has had a lot of great runs and had a few opportunities but they were just unable to find the back of the net. Great hustle and heart through the entire game, I could not have asked for more from my players” said Coach Brown after the game.

The Eagles play again on Friday against Chelsea. The team has been playing very well defensively and is looking to pull an upset.
