Mystic Valley Girls Soccer Advances

The girls' varsity soccer team defeated Marian 1-0.

Mystic Valley Girls Win Tournament game 1-0

On Saturday the MVRCS girls’ varsity soccer team recorded a well deserved victory 1-0 over Marian high school in the first round of the state tournament.  The Eagles jumped out to a very early lead thanks to the break away speed and cool finishing of senior captain Ariana Mirzakashani.  The rest of the first half was evenly played between the two teams and could have seen the Eagles double their lead on a few occasions.

The two teams were both organized and disciplined in their approach to the game.  Mystic Valley played with a determination and spirit that was worthy of their first ever home tournament game.  The home crowd certainly played their part in the victory and helped them hang on until the final whistle.

The defense has been the back bone of the team all season and Jackie Lane recorded her astounding 11th shutout in 19 games.  The game was really won in the midfield battle which saw Mystic Valley closing down the Marian players at every opportunity.  After the game Head Coach, Chris Giles said that “the 1-0 victory was a true team effort with every player giving their best effort at the most important time.”

The quarter final round will be played on Tuesday, November 8th at 6:30pm when Mystic Valley will host Watertown High School.
