Mystic Valley Cuts Ribbon at New Athletic Field

Ribbon Cutting

A group of local elected officials joined members of Mystic Valley’s Board of Trustees and a large number of Mystic Valley students, alumni and parents to celebrate the opening of the school’s new athletic field on Eastern Avenue.  The synthetic turf field will be used for soccer, lacrosse and softball and other school and community events. A video of the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony can be seen on YouTube http://youtu.be/gJZYmFu3T-o

The ribbon was cut by Mystic Valley Senior Jackie Lane. Ms. Lane was the Commonwealth Athletic Conference’s Most Valuable Player for Girls Soccer. She recorded 15 shutouts on the year and had an incredible .25 goals against average as she led the team to the MIAA Regional Semifinals.

Joining the Mystic Valley community to celebrate the grand opening was Malden’s Mayor Gary Christenson who remarked that the new field is “not only great for Mystic Valley but also great for Malden”.  Also in attendance were State Representative Paul Donato, Malden City Councillors David D’Archangelo, Craig Spadafora, Steve Ultrino and Jim Nestor, Malden School Committee members Maria Doucette and Debbie DeMaria and Melrose Alderwoman Monica Medeiros.

Mystic Valley’ Executive Director, Martin Trice said “The dedication of this new athletic field marks another milestone in Mystic Valley’s short history.  We all understand that the point of our school is not about bricks and mortar however the importance of having a home gymnasium and now a home playing field cannot be underestimated.  These places help a diverse community come together as one.   We may be from Malden or Wakefield, a high school student or kindergartner, but here, we are all Mystic Valley Eagles.”

“With the most comprehensive and successful sports program of any Charter School in the Commonwealth of MA,  building this field beside our year old athletic/kindergarten center brings Mystic Valley to the next level and will help us more fully develop our students completely in body, mind and spirit” added Mystic Valley Board Chairman, Neil Kinnon.

Mystic Valley’s Athletic Director, Marc Arria said that “I am extremely excited about the new field.  It gives three Mystic Valley teams a home field that they haven’t really had in the past and, it gives the Softball team a brand new field as well.  It will provide the student-athletes at Mystic Valley with a state-of-the-art facility for practices and games, and they deserve it.”
