Mystic Valley Cross Country Tops Northeast

The Mystic Valley cross country boys and girls’ teams both defeated Northeast Metro High School on a wet, soppy Wednesday afternoon.

The boys won by a score of 16-47, taking the top four places in the race. They were led by Sophomore Patrick McPherson who finished number 1 overall with a time of 18:37. He was followed by Senior Patrick Moran (2nd place overall, 19:39) and Senior Kyle Hanson (3rd place overall, 20:01).

The girls won by a score of 17-44, also taking the top four places in the race, led by Sophomore Vanessa LoChirco who finished number 1 overall with a time of 23:37. She was followed by Junior Elise Sheehan (2nd place overall, 24:28) and Freshman Karina Hanson (3rd place overall, 25:03).

The wins put the girls at 8-2 for the season while the boys are 5-4. Both teams finish the regular season next Wednesday against Whittier Regional Tech.

After the meet coach, Jon Bush’ said that “it was another great team win by both teams. Although the weather was bad, our team has done a great job of practicing in the rain all season long and a race like today shows why those practices are the most important. I’m looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow to prepare to finish the season strong.”
