Mystic Valley Baseball Wins in Extra Innings

Baseball

Mystic Valley’s baseball team advanced to the North Region semi-finals with a 4-3 win over Matignon Tuesday afternoon.

Mystic Valley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before Matignon answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.  The very next inning the Eagles came back with 2 runs to take a 3-2 lead which they held until the 5th inning when Matignon tied the game at 3.  The score remained tied and went into extra innings.

Sophomore Ryan Foley singled home Daniel DiFusco for the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th inning.  Senior pitcher Joey Foley was able to finish off his complete game effort by striking out the final batter of the game with the tying run on second base.  Foley reminded spectators of former Detroit Tigers pitcher Jack Morris’ famous World Series performance as he continued pitching into extra innings. He threw a complete game with 8 strikeouts allowing only 3 hits.
