Crew Competes in the Head of the Mystic

The Mystic valley boys and girls crew had a very successful day on the Mystic River during the annual running of the Head -of-the -Mystic Regatta on Saturday.   Over a course of 3 miles that stretched almost from the Riverside Yacht Club, under three bridges, all the way to the edge of Mystic Valley’s dock, the Eagles competed against the Gentle Giant Rowing Club which is comprised of Malden and Somerville High School rowers.

Mystic Valley’s boys varsity four led by cox:  Alex Green, stroke and the team captain Marco Hanna, Ben Horton, Mario Hanna and Alex Coughlin posted the fastest time of the day (19:53) and beat GG’S Varsity 4+by 2 min. and 37 seconds. The Eagles four also managed to beat GG’S Boys Varsity 8+ by 37seconds. Mystic Valley’s JV four comprised of cox: Nick Saponaro, stroke: Raphael  Stigliano, Joe Finn, Ben Lieu and Seamus Gallagher  did a very respectable job as well. They finished in second place with the time of 22:07, and 27 seconds ahead of GG’s Boys Varsity 4+.  

The girls’ varsity 4+ comprised of cox: Jessica Lieu, stroke: Asha Kurian, Amanda Valenti, Maaya Alagappan and Emily Kelly came in 1st place by beating GG’s Girls Varsity four by 36 seconds.   The novices racing in the Mixed 8+ boat event against GG’s Girls Varsity 8+  put on a display of power by placing 2nd , behind GG’s Varsity 8+ (A boat )and  ahead of GG’s Varsity 8+ (B boat).  The Novice boat was led by cox: Amy Nguyen, stroke, Emma Willis, Bridgette Tully, Joe Whitlow, Patrick Daly, Devin Burke, Isha Sharma and Nancy Nguyen.
