Mystic Valley 5th & 6th Grade Girls Win Two

 

The Mystic Valley 5th & 6th grade girls’ basketball team started their season by picking up two wins over Newburyport. They won 34-20 at home on Saturday and then 22-13 on the road on Sunday.

 Coach Brunelli said after the game on Saturday that the returning 6th graders are much improved and played an excellent game with good team chemistry. The Lady Eagles were led by 6th graders: Rachel Wronski who had 16 points; Michela Correale who added 6 points, and Erin Zibell who had 4 points.  Heather DiGiovanni , Alyssa Dagle, Lilly Spero  and Camryn Ryan each helped out with 2 points apiece. The Eagles’ defense was led by Anastasia Bessler, Tara Foley and Lauren Sasso. Sophie Mercurio, Madison Sullivan, Lauren Carlino, and Ashley O’Rourke led the offense with timely passes and assists.

On Sunday, Rachel Wronski and Sophia Mercurio led the way with 6 points each. Lauren Sasso had 4 and Erin Zibell and Anastasia Bessler both scored 2. Coach Brunelli had praise for Tara Foley who had a great game playing point guard and tenacious defense and Camryn Ryan who had several big rebounds. Madison Sullivan, Erin Zibell, Lauren Sasso and Heather DiGiovanni all had strong games.
