Chamber partners with MROA to survey businesses on potential wage increase.

The Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with their associate member, The Malden Restaurant Owners/Operators Association (MROA), is currently gathering opinions from both Malden Chamber Members and the Malden business community on a potential minimum wage increase that will also cover tipped employees including servers and bartenders.  The bill would gradually raise the minimum wage from $8 to $11 an hour by 2015 and then adjust it for inflation. The minimum wage for tipped employees would jump from $2.63 to $6.30, according to the Massachusetts Restaurant Association.

“Such a large increase, even over a few years time, could have a negative impact on many of our Chamber members and Malden businesses in general.  By gathering opinions via this survey, we at the Chamber and the MROA hope to gauge the general consensus for what businesses think about this potential increase, while educating those unaware of its existence on the specifics.” – Jenna Coccimiglio, Executive Director of the Malden Chamber of Commerce

The survey is open to any and all Malden Chamber Members and Malden business owners/managers to complete on the Chambers website: http://www.maldenchamber.org/site/
