Girls Under-10 Youth Soccer Team Defeats Wilmington and Reading

Malden Youth Soccer's girls U10-2 team played two away games this weekend, beating both Wilmington and Reading.

[Submitted by Betsie Cummings]

Saturday May 14, Malden Girls U10-2 defeated (formerly) First Place Wilmington, 1-0 at home (Amerige Field).  Goal Keepers Genny Murphy and Peyton Hanley kept the Wilmington offense at bay, while Sophia Gouveia knocked in the one goal Malden needed to win the game.

This was a big win for the girls, and set the tone for the next day's game on Sunday. The skies opened up and turned the match against Reading into The MudBowl.  The Malden GU10-2 girls brought their skill and enthusiasm to beat Reading (in Reading) 4-0.

Within the first 15-20 seconds Haley Morris pounded in the first goal.  Ashley O'Rourke, not only kept goal, she also scored twice on Reading.  Sophia Gouveia booted another one in for Malden. The footing was tricky and there were several muddy jerseys by the end.  Malden demonstrated great skill with good passing, assists, and blocking from the whole team. The Malden GU10-2 team, coached by Guy DiBella and Tom Cummings, stands undefeated at 3-0-2. Next, they face Burlington (in Burlington) on Wednesday May 18.

BOOT IT MALDEN!!
