Key Malden Local Leaders, Others, Rally Around Jason Lewis

Malden – With the special Democratic primary to fill Katherine Clark’s state Senate seat a week away, local leaders and progressive organizations continue to unify behind state Rep. Jason Lewis, the progressive Democrat in the race.

Former Malden City Councilor At Large, Greg Lucey, and former Malden City Councilor from Ward 8, Judi Bucci, endorsed Lewis, citing his understanding of the district and knowledge of the issues.

Lucey and Bucci join Malden School Committee member Adam Weldai who says he supports Lewis because of his effectiveness as a legislator and concerns for local working families in Malden and across the district.  “The State Senate needs an effective leader like Jason Lewis to keep our community well represented,” explained Weldai.  “Malden and our other communities need results and Representative Lewis has a track record of delivering them.”

Paul Toner, president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association stated, “As a state representative, Jason Lewis is a champion for students and educators. He has been a leader in the fight for adequate resources for our public schools, colleges and universities. Electing Jason Lewis to the state Senate will ensure strong advocacy for students, educators and public education.”

Additionally, Lewis was endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund, which joined NARAL Pro-Choice in supporting his candidacy.  He has also been endorsed by four SEIU locals and the NASW-MA PACE – which all citied Lewis’s effective advocacy for working families, including being the lead sponsor of the earned sick time legislation, as one of the main reasons for their endorsements.

“We are really excited that we were able to bring such a broad coalition together for this campaign,” said Suzanne Schlossberg, Lewis’s campaign manager. “The local leaders, legislators, and advocates at the front lines working on important issues, have looked at all the candidates and overwhelmingly concluded Jason Lewis is the clear choice.”
