When is the South Broadway Park Groundbreaking Ceremony in Malden?

Find out when the South Broadway Park groundbreaking ceremony kicks off in Malden this week.

In our latest You Ask, Patch Answers story, we answer this question: When is the South Broadway Park groundbreaking ceremony in Malden?

The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at South Broadway Park, located in Ward Six, according to Deborah Burke, assistant executive director of the Malden Redevelopment Authority.

The $6.5 million in renovations are expected to take two years to complete, according to Burke.

"The city has bonded the entire project (for) $6.5 (million)," Burke wrote in an email to Malden Patch Tuesday night. "It has several funding sources it is using including two state grants totaling $693,000; $1 million contributions from both the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School and Malden Catholic High School which will be paid over time to the city; land donations from the abutting shopping center representing a significant financial investment in the project and some federal Community Development Block Grant Monies."

Several improvements are planned for the park, including a new synthetic turf field, dugouts, spectator seating, lights for night play, four tennis courts and improved parking, according to Burke.

The MRA is administering the project for and on behalf of the city, according to Burke. The city-owned park will be maintained by the city, she added.

Once the project is underway, Burke said updates will be posted to the City of Malden website.
