Mayor Inducted into Golden Tornado Club Hall of Fame

At the 2013 Golden Tornado Club Hall of Fame Banquet, Mayor Gary Christenson was awarded the Distinguished Service Award.

At the 2013 Golden Tornado Club Hall of Fame Banquet, Mayor Gary Christenson was awarded the Distinguished Service Award, according to a city press statement.

Christenson was presented the award by his father Jeff Christenson, according to the statement. Each year the Golden Tornado Club honors a Malden resident who has shown leadership and support of the city’s student athletes, the statement adds.

Christenson, a member of the Class of 1986, joins a group of fellow Maldonians who have been honored for distinguished service, according to the statement. This year’s inductees into the Hall of Fame are John Taglieri (Class of 1978), Paul Murphy (Class of 1982), Brian Noone (Class of 1982), Brian Blumsack (Class of 1998), Nick Cox (Class of 2000), and Bobby Ryan (Class of 2000), reads the statement.

The Golden Tornado Club is a booster organization dedicated to supporting the student athletes in the Malden Public Schools, reads the statement. The club also holds fundraising events to benefit sports clubs and works to develop programs for the students, the statement adds.

“I’m honored to have been selected for this prestigious award,” Christenson said in the statement. “I join the ranks of Malden’s finest and will do my best to continue to support our student athletes.”
