Tips for Staying Happy and Healthy on Your Stay-Cation this Spring

Spring break season is in full swing, and while the kids may be on vacation, this doesn’t always mean mom is. In recent years many families have decided to stay home during vacation breaks, with 52% of Americans opting not to travel. But just because you’re not in a tropical location doesn’t mean you can’t bring the vacation fun to your own home! 

                                                                                                                   

Here are some great tips for mom and the entire family to stay happy and healthy during break:

 

Spice Up Your Meals – Add some flare to your normal cooking with exotic foods that remind you of the warm weather.  Think about a papaya salsa on some grilled shrimp tacos or tropical fruit salad including pineapple and coconut.

 

Enjoy the Outdoors – While you may not be on a beach getaway, there are plenty of fun outdoor activities you can do in your own backyard. Take a bike ride with the kids, go for a long walk somewhere you have yet to explore or even go for a hike on a local trail. Or, become a tourist in your hometown and check out the Swan Boats that just opened for the season or walk the Freedom Trail.

 

Indulge Yourself – Take some time to relax amidst your busy life. Lie down for a long nap, pamper yourself with a blow out or manicure, or even get a massage.  This little bit of relaxation will go a long way. Try checking out your nearest Massage Envy—they over a discount to first time customers.

 

 Jam to Tropical Tunes – Tune in to the Bob Marley station on your Internet radio or play your favorite calypso CD! Music can do wonders for your mental state.

 

Drink up some fun – I usually recommend water as the best source of hydration, but you may want to mix things up to get into the tropical mood.  Consider trying one of the two flavors of fruitwater - fizzy lemonade and tropical pineapple. Each of these sparkling water flavors offer a little bit of the season and tropics in each sip without the calories!
