Art at the Edge of the Everyday: Painting Nails | Writing Video Games

Greg Cook, a Malden resident and arts reporter for
WBUR.org and The Providence Phoenix newspaper, hosts “Quiet, Please,” a
regular series of talks at the Malden Public Library about arts,
cultures and other interesting things.

This month’s talk “Painting Nails | Writing Video Games: Art at the Edge of the Everyday,” features artists Victoria Shen of Somerville (evicshen.com), who does “Modernist Manicures” in which she copies iconic mid-20th
century abstract paintings by Jackson Pollock and associates onto
people’s fingernails to rethink this art’s legacy, and Anthony Montuori of Malden (anthonymontuori.com),
who creates retro-style video games that satirize the frustrations of
life in Great Recession America. One of Montuori’s games will be
available for people to play at the talk.

The talk will be followed by a tour of the library’s Converse Memorial Building art galleries with art consultant Marysara Naczi.
