Sustainable Fashion is Coming to Malden!

By now, I hope everyone has seen the community notice that Tailored For Success is having a fashion show!

TFS is partnering with some really great companies who share our passion of empowering women: We have fashions from both Proxy Apparel and CAbi, and over the next few weeks, I will give you more information about these two companies and the wonderful ladies behind them.

However, the focus of my blog today is to introduce you to "sustainable fashion" -   what is sustainable fashion, and why is it important?  Sustainable fashion, according to that wonderfully free encyclopedia Wikipedia, can also be called eco-fashion. 

Sustainable fashion or eco-fashion is part of a growing trend of "sustainable design where a a product is created and produced with consideration to the environment". Basically, it's recycling in its purest form; nothing is thrown away and what is recycled can and often does empower individuals in developing countries.  Or, to make it more local, helps women and men returning to the workforce!

Little did I know when I first started TFS to help women make a positive first impression on an interview ten years ago that I would become a champion for sustainable fashion.  If an item of clothing is donated to TFS and is not suitable for interview purposes, we re-donate to other agencies, or sell the clothing in our resale boutique - Tailored Impressions.  In this way, we (and our donors) are helping women and men reduce their carbon footprint while empowering economically disadvantaged individuals.
