Something Old is New Again!

As Executive Director of Tailored For Success, Inc., I am honored to be writing a blog for Malden Patch. In my first post, I would like to give readers my view of career reinvention.

I know you thought this would be a blog about clothes, professional image and interviewing.  Yes, I will blog about these topics, but for my first blog on Malden Patch I thought I’d write about career reinvention. There’s nothing new about career reinvention, this term seems to come up especially in difficult economic times when people are finding it hard to not only get a job but retain it.

When unemployment is high the “experts” talk about reinventing yourself to find your true passion, ultimate career or calling. That’s all well and good but a little Pollyanna for me! My philosophy has always been “we are all self-employed” which means that we are all responsible for not only our career but how we advance within that career and what success means to us as individuals.

Successful individuals are constantly in a state of reinvention, they are life-long learners, they take risks and set goals for long term career success. So, keep reinventing yourself without the fear of failure—remember, the biggest failure is a missed opportunity!
