Zonta President Elizabeth Hart Reflects on Her Departure

Things are always changing. It may not be the end but just the beginning of something great!

Hello Malden Patch Readers,

I apologize for not writing but it's been a busy couple of months.  As you know (or not) for the past two years, I've been proudly serving as the President of the Zonta Club of Malden. My presidency is now over and I have been wrapping things up for the incoming president.

It has been a great ride with lots of ups, downs, twists and turns, but mainly a lot of ups! I believe I'm leaving the club in a stronger position and am looking forward to assisting our new president Joanne as much as she needs me. I have learned a lot being president of a well established club. As Founder of a nonprofit, I feel I have a lot of control but had to learn new skills as President of Zonta. Which has clearly made me a better leader (I hope).

Typically, when things end you (or maybe just me) get melancholy and reflective.  I shared with many that I was a little down about not being President of Zonta anymore, but now realize there are other challenges, obstacles and opportunities ahead.

This leads me to the real focus of my blog: For many years, I've admired the work of Ann Curry on the Today show. In case you missed it, she finally - after 15 years - got her "dream job" as co-host of the show.  But poor ratings and a lack of chemistry between her and her co-host is costing her her job.

I listen to women (and men) every day who are or have lost their job, but imagine having it happen in such a public arena. I know, this is the field she is in but I cannot help but feel for her and draw a comparison. For Ann it is the end of her co-hosting position, but as talented as she is I know she will go on to better things - as they say, when one door closes another opens.

I say that all the time to my clients, many of whom are facing incredible obstacles and barriers.  So for myself, Ann and anyone else out there that needs a little encouragement I hope this quote helps:

"I believe things happen for a reason.  People change so you can learn to let go.  Things so wrong so you can learn to appreciate them when they are right.  You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself...and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together" - Marilyn Monroe.
