A Timely Standout...

Some news stories just hit you hard.  The recent sad story about the loss of a mother and her two babies was one for me.  I admit to not reading the paper every day, even though I try, but yesterday I bought as many as I could to get more information about the senseless murder/suicide in Arlington.

When I heard the police were not looking for a suspect, I knew what happened.  Another tragic case of domestic violence and I wondered what could have been done to prevent this.  Did the mother ask for help or know how or where to go for help? The questions will linger in my mind and probably never be answered.

Then I remembered the Stand Out and Zonta Says NO.

On Monday, November 25th the Zonta Club of Malden is bringing the Silent Witness project to Malden in conjunction with Zonta International's 16 days of Activism against gender violence.

I and members of the Zonta Club of Malden will be standing out in various locations in Malden to raise awareness about domestic violence prevention and resources available in our community for assistance.  The Stand Out locations on Monday, November 25th are as follows:

10:00 a.m. - Noon - Malden Courthouse
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. -Malden Teen Center
2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. - Salvation Army
5:00 p.m. - 7 p.m. - Malden Government Center

It is my hope that our presence will give voice to those who have no voice.  It is my hope that we may reach someone looking for help.  It is my hope to give a friend, family member or co-worker somewhere to turn for assistance.  It is my hope that what happened in Arlington in some way can be prevented by what we are doing.
