is there such a thing as too much trash? I put out a lot of blue bags and some broken riding toys, about 10. They left me a note saying that if the toys were not off my lawn in 24 hours they would fine me 300$ and to put the rest out for the next trash day. I did have about 15 lawn bags. They were taken. Isn't the point of paying for the bags to have all your trash collected, and being allowed to place a large item for every blue bag?

Good Morning, I would like to know if flashing school zone signs can be placed around the Salemwood school. People drive by so fast here. Some may have no idea that it is a school zone, if they do not live here. I have never seen anyone pulled over for speeding here.

I would also like to know why the lights in front of the fire station at MHS DO NOT TURN red as an engine is leaving. I have seen this many many times. I noticed it myself when I felt I came to close to a fire engine leaving the station and thought I had not seen it. However, I watched and have seen this too many times. But they do go on when the back into the station after the emergency is clear. Does that make any sense.

How will local organizations be incorporated in the plan for a teen center?
Amy P. April 27, 2012 at 02:13 PM
You know there are so many concerns over kids with learning disabilities and there is so much focus on them, plus there are multiple programs in place for them....what about the middle of the road kid?....what about the gifted child? Those are the kids left behind...what are you doing for them? Those are my children and I feel like we are lost and ignored in this city. What do you plan to do to accelerate their growth?

Good morning. My name is Diana Golden, and am the Artistic Director of a new arts organization in Malden, Firebrand Concert Series. I have a couple questions for you. I would like to know whether the public schools in Malden have plans to add string instrument instruction in addition to Chorus and Band. This is an important part of the curriculum in any school district, and I was told Malden has not offered its students this for 30+ years. I would like to see lessons offered for strings as well as an Orchestra program. In addition, Mayor Christenson hopes to build a Center for the Arts in Malden, and I would like to see organizations dedicated to musical performance play an active role in the Malden arts scene. So far, the ideas I have seen for the Malden Arts Center are only geared toward the needs of visual artists in town. Superintendent, do you have any plans for expanding music in Malden schools to include string instrument instruction, and Mayor, do you have any plans for supporting musical performance in Malden? Thank you.

Kudos to the Mayor & his team for keeping all "Maldenites" involved. The live chats are great..and make you feel more included in your community.

Mr Superindentent: Are there any plans to bring theater & drama to the elementary schools? Adding this art would add another boost of confidence for all our children.

Guys, please make sure to enter your questions in the text box in the chat, that's the quickest way to get it to our panelists. Sorry we had some technical difficulties where that box was NOT appearing, but it should be there now.

Frustrated....feeling frustrated with this live chat. I know it's hard to answer questions concretely but every answer is "we are looking into..." We all know what that means. Best intentions, but a simple yes or no answer sometimes is more refreshing than vague promises. You have done a great job communicating with the city and I admire that, but with it comes a new level of frustration.

I think the software is limited in that all the answers must be manually typed in. If you used something like www.gotowebinar.com or some other tool to allow the moderater and the guest to verbally ask questions, rather than having the person answering questions have to type everything in, it would speed things up.

Chris...The chat box was not available in chrome but I was able to see it in IE.
Chris Caesar April 27, 2012 at 10:39 PM
Hey, yeah, we had some problems with the entire chat box not being displayed on the website. Eventually we realized it when we weren't getting questions and were able to fix it, which probably accounts for why you saw it load in IE. Sorry about that!

I have been an Malden Band parent for 7 years and I think city of Malden is very committed to the Music Department in the schools. I know that Mayor Christenson has been and will continue to be dedicated to keeping Arts in the schools. I wasn't aware that there isn'ta string section but i know that students can play instruments that aren't usually in band if they already know to play it.
