The Malden area is expected to get between 4-8 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service's update at 10:54 p.m. Saturday.
Wind gusts are expected to be high (near 47 miles per hour tonight and as high as 44 miles per hour on Sunday) and could cause damage when combined with the wet snow, the weather service warns.
Large Fire in Somerville
A in a commercial block in Somerville during the storm Saturday night. Firefighters from at least six surrounding communities helped fight the 3-alarm blaze in Teele Square. No injuries were reported as of this writing, in the blaze at on Broadway.
Rain and snow were expected to continue to fall until about 1 p.m. Sunday.
A storm advisory led the New England Band Association to cancel its show in Billerica Saturday, where as much as 8-inches of snow was predicted to fall. The Malden High School Marching Band was scheduled to play at that show, as well as a season-ending championship show on Sunday, which was rescheduled to Nov. 6. The championship show is being held in Lawrence, which could get as much as 8 inches of snow.
Foogi 5K Haunt Jaunt Still On
The Friends of Oak Grove 5K Haunt Jaunt scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. is still on, as of this writing Saturday night. A message on its website taunts: "DON'T BE SCARED....Haunt Jaunt is on, rain or shine! The storm will blow out before the race. A little snow shower in the morning gets the blood pumping! See you Sunday!"
On Monday the weather service predicts will be mostly sunny with a high of about 48.
