Flag Will Fly Over US Capitol for "Mr. Fam."

PLUS: Memorial service information.

Forestdale 8th graders on their class trip to Washington, DC may have missed Paul Famiglietti's memorial services at Malden High School last weekend, so for now, they'll bring Malden's flair for memorializing to the capital.

An American flag will fly over the US Capitol building in honor of the hometown hero, with the class later transporting the gift home for the Famiglietti family.

Paul's wife Susan is a teacher at the school.

“Just found out they are flying a flag over the Capitol building in Washington DC for my Dad Thursday and sending the flag home with my Mom's school during their eighth grade trip!” Famiglietti's daughter Amy wrote on Facebook. “MY DAD...Just a regular everyday guy who wore tshirts and jeans every day!

“First time I've been happy and excited about something since Saturday...legit just skipped into my house,” she said, then adding several smiley faces. “My dad wouldn't have believed all of this!”

“(We) didn't realize how many hearts my dad touched,” she wrote in another update.

Celebration of Famiglietti's life continues

Famiglietti was so popular, his nickname, “Mr. Fam,” became one of Twitter's trending topics in the Boston area when news of his death spread among students.

Since then, an unidentified fan a memorial Facebook page with over 500 followers has sprung up, with messages from family friends, old classmates and both new and former students.

Others shared videos of Famiglietti already uploaded onto YouTube, including this performance at the 2007 MHS Faculty Fall Follies with student Mark Damon, to the thunderous applause of students.

Another video shows him joking around with students in 2008. More recently, one student uploaded a video tribute to the site.
