The gorgeous weather finally breaks later this afternoon, and you’ll spend the weekend saying to yourself, “No, really, it’s not cold; this is normal for March.” Expect a high in the 70’s today. By Sunday the mercury will struggle to crack 50 degrees.

Switchboxes, in general, are easy to ignore. The metal-clad electrical components control traffic lights, and usually hide in plain sight. Remember The Palace? The monster dance hall on Rt. 99 hosted shows for every musical genre and theme at one point or another. It’s gone now, but just down the street is channeling (not to be confused with The Channel) the defunct venue with “,” which should bring a little twang to the party. Tickets are $10 for the 7 p.m. event.

4) Malden Reads movie night

Malden Reads, the citywide book club, is enjoying a successful second campaign. The month’s events continue tonight at the for a showing of “.” The film follows two Somali families as they move from their homeland to Massachusetts. The 7 p.m. event is free of charge.

5) Are you ready for some football?

Sports sign-up season continues this weekend with Pop Warner football and cheerleaders registration. The cyclones host a registration day at the Oak Grove Community Center noon-3 p.m. March 24. Registration is $125, and you’ll need an original birth certificate along with paperwork you can download at the Cyclones website.
