Ahh, excuse me, ah Mr Wishoski? ah what does ah " KINDA" safe mean? Time to broom out the MRA and bring in some new blood.
Chris Caesar April 09, 2012 at 10:06 AM
I think he says "kinda interesting and nice" but I am not hearing him say "safe," unless I am watching the wrong clip.
Hank April 09, 2012 at 10:52 AM
They are not ADDING more police officers. These four new cops won't even come close to the number of cops cut since 2003. Not to mention how many more will be retiring over the next few years. At least Christensen is making an effort unlike the previous guy.
David Marsters April 09, 2012 at 12:28 PM
You are right Mary. Time to broom. Mr Wishoski and Ms Burke have been there for ages. I retired from police 1994 and they were there many years before I retired. No city is safe. You can't have a cop assigned to every household. It is the court system that has to change. An eye for an eye is my moto. Judges should be elected mot appointed.
Lydia April 09, 2012 at 12:38 PM
And how many sober houses and drug rehab clinics would Mr. Duffy advocate for in this new plan?
Hank April 09, 2012 at 12:41 PM
How did Mr Duffy get his appointed position? Who watches what the MRA does?
Lydia April 09, 2012 at 01:35 PM
Ohh, it's "interesting" alright!
Chris Caesar April 09, 2012 at 02:19 PM
Mr. Duffy was hired by the mayor, along with the rest of his staff, and they were approved by the city council at the beginning of Christenson's term.
Lydia April 09, 2012 at 02:57 PM
Besides being on the School Committee and working on the Mayors campaign what qualifies him for this job?
Diana April 09, 2012 at 03:17 PM
What qualifies anyone for a position in local government? Mostly it's that they actually take an interest in local government and show up ready to do something, which of course 99.3% of people don't do. What do you know of that disqualifies him for this job? Nice to see the holiday put everyone in a crucifyin' mood.
Inna Babitskaya April 09, 2012 at 03:40 PM
Hi Chris, I'm surprised that your version of discussion totally excludes both my serious suggestions and substantial concerns about the some of the city projects. This “cut” doesn’t show the real discussion as it was. Thus, the whole event looks like the governmental meeting.
Chris Caesar April 09, 2012 at 04:06 PM
Sorry Inna, but I had to cut a lot out to make the highlight reels work in a coherent way. I am compressing an hour of conversation into two minute snippets, and I'm afraid a lot of stuff I'd love to include got cut from the highlights above. For what it's worth, I included your comments, in their entirety, about your vision for Malden in 2040, during which your ideas for a cultural center and a biomedical industry are mentioned. While I didn't include your question to keep the videos moving quickly, I included Steve's answers to your questions about the baseball stadium as well. Readers that watch the discussion on the MATV website will still see the conversation in its entirety, but for this article, I wanted our readers to have little video bites of information about projects already on the table.
Lydia April 09, 2012 at 06:49 PM
Diana, I wasn't trying to crucify anyone. Just asking a question, what are his qualifications, what did he do for work before? Sorry if I upset you.

Lydia, if you do a Google search on Kevin Duffy, you can look up his background and profile on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/kevinjduffy

Hank,, Theorectically, there is a Board of Commissioners which is suppose to watch the MRA. However, since these Board Members are appointed by the mayor(all are holdoves from the previous administration), whether or they do is questionable. A few years ago, the MRA and the Mayor's office was caught using Federal Grant money to pay for lunches over at Artichokes, which was across the street where the Mexican place is going in. This practice was illegal, and they were forced to pay the money back using other funds. And it wasn't the Board that brought the issue public. Someone quitely and anonymously dropped a dime to the council, which in turn brought the issue to the public's attention.

Keep in mind that Kevin is the one who wrote everything on Linkedin. I was surprised to see him included in the new administration. Healthy Malden Inc is now shut down, correct? And he was the last "Captain of the Ship" so to speak. It does seem that his lack of business experience would be a hinderance to someone being a Business Development Officer. That said, he is a nice guy and hope he does well, because that would be a benefit to the city.
Diana April 09, 2012 at 08:21 PM
Lydia, my apologies if I misinterpreted your post. I was just kind of bemused at the tone the thread had taken, which seemed to me pretty much "Throw the bums out! Get new people! Oh look... new guy! Throw the bum out!!!"
paul surette April 09, 2012 at 09:31 PM
Lol Mr. Duffy taking shots at downtown Melrose? Really? He says "telling them about the revitalization that is going on..." .....I must have missed something. WHAT revitalization? The trash program? Thank you for the laugh Mr. Duffy. I can always use a good one on a Monday :)

If Kevin Duffy was Director of Operations at Preventative Medicine, does that mean he had knowledge of the crimes his boss, Dr. Kishore, is being charged with? Preventative Medicine had two of the drug treatment centers run by Dr. Kishore and his staff in Malden. His boss has been charged with bilking Medicare and abruptly shut down. I am concerned that Mr. Duffy is a proponent of drug treatment centers and would not be opposed to two new centers opening to replace those that closed. Between his background at Healthy Malden and these centers, it makes me worried he would be advising the new Mayor to continue on with our trend of opening such places which attract the drug and alcohol afflicted patients these centers and houses cater to. I am not against someone getting the help they need, yet it seems they are moving here to be close to the centers and still live here when they fall off the wagon and the long time residents are left to deal with the binges. No one quits drugs the first time they try. How many times does someone hit bottom before they get it right? Why does Malden have a higher number of these places than other cities? Let's get to the root of our crime and work on that, ok? Move the junkies and their friends along, please.
Lydia April 09, 2012 at 11:06 PM
I was looking up Preventative Medicine and found this link. http://www.prurgent.com/2010-06-10/pressrelease100380.htm
Gerry April 10, 2012 at 12:14 AM
Please no more treatment centers in Malden. We have the luxury of having the MBTA here and I believe substance abusers are considered disabled so they get free transportation. So please travel on and get the help you need. Somewhere else.
Paul Weston April 10, 2012 at 02:16 AM
The building where Preventive Medicine Associates was located is up for auction. Here are the details: http://www.tranzon.com/AP12012-2 .
Chris Caesar April 10, 2012 at 11:15 PM
Spoke to him about this, Annie. There was an investigation and Duffy was never called before the grand jury to testify.
