VIDEO: Bike To The Sea Ride Goes On Despite Rain

First section of trail, from Everett to Malden, expected to be ready in August.

The 19th annual Bike to the Sea ride took off from the Dockside parking lot on Rte. 60 in Malden a little after 9 a.m. on Sunday. The ride raises awareness for the group's efforts to build a bike trail through Medford, Everett, Malden, Revere, Saugus and Lynn to Nahant Beach.

After nearly two decades the project gained momentum in recent months with construction beginning in Everett. It's expected that the section of trail from Everett to Malden will be ready by August.

, Malden school committee member and founder of the group, was on hand to give riders instructions on the 18 mile roundtrip ride. And Malden City Councilor and candidate for mayor Gary Christianson was one of about 30 people who took the ride. 

Turnout is usually higher but cloudy skies and a light drizzle kept some people curbside.
