Malden High Homecoming well-attended
The Malden High School Homecoming was the best-attended since tradition was established five years ago; quotes from some who were there for the fun.

The Malden High School Homecoming brunch last Sunday was “the best attended” in the five years since the custom was established.

“We had a fantastic day,” said Patty Kelly, Class of 1980, who chaired the Homecoming for its sponsor, the MHS Alumni Association.
This year’s brunch in the school’s cafeteria, the fifth, “was the best attended event to date,” Kelly said. “Thanks to all the alums for sharing memories of Malden High.”

She also had special thanks for the MHS Key Club, the football team captains and the cheerleaders for helping make the event even more enjoyable for the alums, including a rousing rendition of “Our Colors are the Blue and Gold...etc.”
Contributing to the great turnout was that this year’s brunch was celebrating the upcoming 125th football matchup between traditional rivals Malden and Medford on Thanksgiving Day.
“It’s wonderfully attended,” said Ann Madigan, Class of ’50. “Without a doubt everyone is having a great time.” She said there was a “great spirit” in the room.
“It’s getting better every year,” said Dana Brown, MHS principal. “There’s a lot of energy in the room. I saw it when I first came in.”
“It was a party,” enthused Kathi Sheridan, Class of ’74.
Former Malden Mayor James Conway, attending his first Homecoming, was impressed with the affair.
“This is very good for the school,” the Class of ’48 grad said.
The alumni association uses this and other events to raise funds for scholarships and other student needs.
More than 130 graduates and guests attended the Homecoming in the school’s blue and gold-themed cafeteria.
They were inspired by the attendance of several of the oldest graduates, 101-year-old Muriel (Dinneen) Cosgrove, Class of 1929A, Marshall Soderblom, Class of ’33, and Frank Goodwin, Class of ’43.
In keeping with the Thanksgiving theme, former football player Dick Vaughn, Class of ’53, displayed a souvenir Malden football shirt worn in the 100th Thanksgiving game. Vaughn himself looked teen-age slender, wearing his “M” letter sweater.
“It still fits,” he offered.
The Golden Tornado Club was also on hand to boost the 125th game and MHS sports, and Dave Connolly was there to promote his upcoming Nov. 10 show, featuring seven “Class Clowns,” MHS grads who “thrive” in the world of comedy.
After the meal, catered by Anthony’s of Malden, many grads walked the halls to the Jenkins Auditorium, the crown jewel of the school’s multi-million-dollar renovation.
“This is beautiful,” said Debbie Gordon, who attended from West Hartford, Ct., with her husband, Mark Gordon, Class of ’70.
“And you’ve got a pool, too?”
