Malden/Pope John Hockey beats Medford 7-3

Malden/Pope John hockey wins their first game of the season.

The Malden High/Pope John hockey team won their first game of the season in East Boston Saturday night against Medford High. The Tigers beat the Mustangs 7-3, taking the lead in the first period with a goal scored by MHS sophomore Daniel Valente.

The score triggered back and forth between the two teams throughout the second period with Tigers’ goals scored by Pope John junior Brendan Woodworth and senior Captain Mike DeRosa.

Going into the third period, the Tigers and Mustangs were tied with a score of 3-3. The Tigers fought back with exceptional goaltending by MHS sophomore goalie Andres Arredondo, 3 unanswered goals by Valente and another by DeRosa.

The Malden/Pope John defensive line remained strong throughout the entire game by keeping Medford out of scoring position.

The Tigers look to pick up another win against Somerville on Tuesday at 4:00 at Conway Rink.
