With the Stop & Shop Supermarket on Broadway in Malden expected to close by early February, we'd like to know: What should be done with the property after the business closes?

Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, LLC will be closing the store located at 60 Broadway in Malden by Feb. 8, according to a company press statement on Thursday, Jan. 9. It's unclear what will be done with the site, owned by Chestnut Hill-based W.S. Development, according to Stop & Shop Supermarket spokesperson Judi Palmer in an email to Malden Patch on Jan. 9.

Let us know what you think should be done with the property by posting a comment below.

They should build a new housing project there. We have a lot of families in need in Massachusetts who could find their new home in Malden. Or they could build a new Dollar store or a liquor store.

Move the city hall there or sell to Holy Cross for new mausoleum.

Put a Market Basket there their prices are so much better than Stop and Shop

Whatever goes in (my vote is Market Basket or housing), what about including some green space. The area needs it.

Market Basket ASAP !!! Lets help the Elderly & others whom live in Malden with an affordable clean place to shop . Stop & Shop is to expensive always has been . I myself refuse to shop at Stop & Shop inflated prices and junkies in the bathrooms needles in the parking lots that's just the tip of issues at that place . The Police are there constantly due to people stealing on top of the other issues I mentioned . Our police should be able to do there jobs & not have to babysit that store due to all it's issues . Everyone knows if you want drugs go to Stop & Shop and I'm not talking about there Pharmacy . Stop & Shop has become nothing but a problem for our community shut them down !!!

Psh Market Basket?! How about something nice and aesthetically pleasing like a park?
robert wilson January 13, 2014 at 01:36 PM
A Market Basket would be nice, maybe a tree for aesthetics.

The charter school already invested money into upgrading the park there. Neil is defiantly not stepping down from the board regardless of what the MA Dept of Ed has ordered, who are the only ones he answers to. He is pushing to get another 400 students added to the school limit. (400x$10,000 avg = $4mil guaranteed income added to the $15mil+ now generated) Nice location for building another school with a field attached? You connect the dots. For once, that's actually a better idea than what he's done before.

I would love to see a market basket or shopper saver or some store that is reasonably priced for us locals that need that store for shopping. No more parks there is one right next to it another one right across from it then malden catholic and their field right next to that. I dont see how a park is gonna benefit people , just makes a new place for kids to hang around and cause trouble. We dont need anymore of that in this area already enough

A market basket would be nice

Hehehe ? Everybody wants a Market Basket and hates stop and shop , do the owners of that company care what people think of them. I guess if you don't have car, you have no choice though
janice lanni January 15, 2014 at 12:08 PM
We really need a Walmart in there not another supermarket
jirkyrick January 15, 2014 at 12:55 PM
Walmart. ugh, I have only been in Walmart once in my life because I had no choice, what a depressing place. But, what the heck, at least it would not be in the square. Doesn't Walmart usually end up destroying all the local small businesses once they are in though? Maybe that would be good, all the dollar stores would be closed in the square

Please please put a Market Basket there. I can't stand Stop & Rob's prices...they are too high.
linda January 17, 2014 at 05:50 AM
If a lawsuit is prohibiting them from opening the Market Basket they built in Revere, I think you can forget about them building one in Malden and I think the last thing Malden needs is "housing".
linda January 17, 2014 at 05:54 AM
housing, a dollar store and a liquor store? do you see a trend here. nothing to build up the area. How about a sizable retail store so people who live in the area could apply for decent paying jobs. much better trend!
jirkyrick January 17, 2014 at 07:33 AM
I think maybe davim was being sarcastic since that seems to be all that has been built the for a while. Remember when the Granada highlands where luxury units, they should have just torn them donw
