Recent Malden Catholic Grad Opens Sudbury Barbershop

Most 19-year-olds are still trying to figure out what they want to do with their future. James Freedlender and Nolan Alberghini, a recent Malden Catholic High School graduate, don’t just know what they want to do – they’re well on their way to accomplishing it.

Earlier this month, the pair of teenagers opened Sudbury’s newest barbershop as they had the grand opening for Hounds Barbershop & Co., which is located at 29 Hudson Road, Suite 120.

Though Freedlender and Alberghini are just 19, the idea for this shop has been in the works since they were students at New England Hair Academy in Malden, one of three barber schools in Massachusetts.

“The first day of barber school I met him. We just sat down and the first thing we told each other was we wanted to open a barber shop,” said Freedlender. “We knew we made a good product. Since day one, this has been our idea, our baby, to make this into what it is."

The shop, with a décor that Freedlander describes as vintage industrial meeting new age modern, is intended to be a high end, classy establishment. Each day to work, the shop’s owners wear a suit, showing off the style they intend to provide their customers.

Freedlender grew up in Sudbury and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. Alberghini was raised in Burlington and attended Malden Catholic.

Since opening, the shop has seen steady business, according to Freedlender. The ultimate goal for the pair is to thrive in Sudbury, but not stop there. The barbers would like to ultimately open five shops throughout the area.

“No one really assumes we’re 19. They’re surprised,” said Freedlender. “We’re very driven to do an amazing job. Our goal isn’t to stop here. We’re two driven young guys. We practice, and we’ve worked so hard to get to where we are. I can confidently say we give great haircuts to our customers.”
