Waitts Mountain Cleanup a Success

Ward 4 Councilor Jim Nestor & the Tufts University Mountain Club cleaned the park this weekend.

The following was submitted by Councillor Jim Nestor:

Last Saturday Ward 4 Councilor Jim Nestor & the Tufts University Mountain Club conducted a fall cleanup of Waitts Mount. The Tufts Mountain Club sent 25 members to help clean the summit of the park.

"I would like to thank the Tufts Mount Club for turning out to help clean Waitts Mount Park" said Councilor Nestor.

"It was fantastic to hear their stories about climbing the main wall on the right hand side of the park as well as how much they love being able to climb at the park. They did a great job and are excited about the renovations to the park.

"They are one of a number of groups that have heard about the renovations and have contacted me concerning ways to help bring the park back to its former glory. A great number of people are looking forward to next fall when we celebrate the opening of the renovated park."

The Tufts Mountain Club is an organization dedicated to bringing the Tufts community outside and is one of the largest student groups on campus. Trips are organized every weekend to go climbing, kayaking, hiking and more throughout New England.

Mr Nestor any plans to clean up Malden Square?
Jim Nestor November 09, 2012 at 07:17 PM
There are quite a bit of plans to improve the square underway. There are discussions on moving/tearing down City Hall, two possible developments of empty lots, renovations to Pleasant Street(currently underway), facade improvements to certain buildings, and the possible relocation of a few businesses that will have an immediate impact to the area. Don't forget the new Malden Police Officer designated to a "walking beat" in this area. The Mayor, MRA, merchants, and I continue to work towards a revitalized Pleasant Street area.
