Malden has declared a snow emergency for noon on Thursday, Jan. 2, according to a city press statement.

"After the snow emergency goes into effect...winter parking rules will be strictly enforced until the snow emergency is lifted," reads the statement. "To avoid getting a ticket or being towed on streets with restrictions, you must seek off-street parking until the snow emergency has been lifted."

The city will open up several locations for residents to park free of charge until the snow emergency has been lifted, including:

• Early Learning Center, 257 Mountain Ave.
• Beebe School, 401 Pleasant St.
• Forestdale School, 74 Sylvan St.
• Ferryway School, 150 Cross St.
• Linden School, 29 Wescott St.
• Salemwood School, 529 Salem St.
• CBD Garage, 170 Centre St.

There will be no school for students at Malden Public Schools on Thursday, Jan. 2 and Friday, Jan. 3.

The following city buildings will be operating on different hours:
Teen Center: Closed Thursday and Friday
Senior Center: Closed as of 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday all day
City Hall: Closed as of 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday all day
Library: Closed as of 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday all day

Thursday's trash/recycling collection will take place but don't forget, this is actually Wednesday's collection with the New Year's Day holiday, adds the statement.

Please enforce the parking regulations. Too many times, there is a parking ban, and people do not move their cars. They do not get ticketed or towed, the plows go around them or do not do the parkjing side of the street at all, and we are left with a very snowy street, that is not shoveled, and after the ban people park so far away from the curb, it impedes traffic (how's that for a run-on sentence?)

I don't know why we have the snow emergency. Cars are parked on the street and nothing being done AGAIN! Harvard Street - Henry Street - loaded with cars!

Because they know nothing will happen. Our street is always the same car. I wonder if they even know it was a snow emergency (since nothing ever happens to them)
