Snow Emergency Goes into Effect Thursday Afternoon in Malden

Malden has declared a snow emergency for noon on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Malden has declared a snow emergency for noon on Thursday, Jan. 2, according to a city press statement.

"After the snow emergency goes into effect...winter parking rules will be strictly enforced until the snow emergency is lifted," reads the statement. "To avoid getting a ticket or being towed on streets with restrictions, you must seek off-street parking until the snow emergency has been lifted."

The city will open up several locations for residents to park free of charge until the snow emergency has been lifted, including:

• Early Learning Center, 257 Mountain Ave.
• Beebe School, 401 Pleasant St.
• Forestdale School, 74 Sylvan St.
• Ferryway School, 150 Cross St.
• Linden School, 29 Wescott St.
• Salemwood School, 529 Salem St.
• CBD Garage, 170 Centre St.

There will be no school for students at Malden Public Schools on Thursday, Jan. 2 and Friday, Jan. 3.

The following city buildings will be operating on different hours:
Teen Center: Closed Thursday and Friday
Senior Center: Closed as of 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday all day
City Hall: Closed as of 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday all day
Library: Closed as of 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday all day

Thursday's trash/recycling collection will take place but don't forget, this is actually Wednesday's collection with the New Year's Day holiday, adds the statement.
