Five Things: A New Whole Foods, A Historical Heist and Manga for Teens

5 things to get your day started this Wednesday, July 24.

1. Possible thunderstorms...again: Wednesday will see partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms around noon. Highs in the upper 80s.

2. Busy week-and-a-half for firefighters: If you see a firefighter around the city today, give them a tip of your hat - the crew has responded to five separate house fires over the past week-and-a-half. Personally, it was already hot enough.

3. On this day in Malden history: Two oil paintings of “considerable value” were stolen from the Converse mansion on Main Street on Thursday, July 24 1930, according to The Daily Boston Globe. Police said the suspect gained access to the mansion - once home to the city’s first mayor, Elisha Converse - by forcing a window.

4. In case you missed it: A new Whole Foods opens this morning at the former Johnnie’s Foodmaster on Main Street in Melrose, just minutes from Malden. The store will hold a 9:45 a.m. bread-breaking ceremony in lieu of a ribbon-cutting with city Mayor Robert Dolan.

5. Japanese Manga for Teens at the library: In grades 6-12? Love Manga? Learn how to draw Manga with accomplished artists Andy and Veronica Fish at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Malden Public Library.
