Broken Tail Rescue is currently raising money to help pay for surgery for an injured cat found in Malden in early September, according to Cat Coordinator Jenn Hayes.
Around 6 p.m. Sept. 4, Hayes picked up the wounded cat after being notified by Malden's Animal Control Officer Kevin Alkins. Tally, a 2-3-year-old domestic short-haired calico, was discovered in a driveway on Wentworth Street, according to Hayes.
"(Tally) had been living in the basement of (an) house with her kittens, and the homeowner put her and them outside because they all had fleas," Hayes said, adding that four kittens were given away to other people. "Her entire left front leg needs to be amputated. Our vet has given us an estimate of anywhere between $880-$1,400, depending on complications and such."
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, Tally is expected to have the amputation, and it may take about a month for her to recover barring any complications, according to Hayes.
