Somerville's Assembly Row Announces a Call for Artists

Assembly Row and the Somerville Arts Council (SAC) will add a new facet to the neighborhood with Assembly Row’s grand opening summer program, Art in the Park.

The Call for Artists will begin the week of March 31st and those who respond have a chance to lead one of the six free art lessons that will be hosted along the Mystic River at the Baxter Riverfront Park.

The program will be free to the public and held every Sunday from June 29th through July 27th 2 pm – 3 pm.

“Through past events like ASSEMBLED, Riverfest, and partnerships within the City like East Somerville and Union Square Main Streets, Assembly Row’s foundation is strongly based within the arts community,” said Andrea Simpson, Director of Marketing for Federal Realty Investment Trust at Assembly Row. “The Somerville Arts Council has been an amazing partner, helping us to connect and identify opportunities to be an outlet and resource to both the arts community and the City of Somerville as a whole.”

Artists and teachers from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Whether it’s a love for painting, photography, sketching, music lessons, henna or beading, Assembly Row and SAC are looking for those who want to share their work and passion with others. Artists who respond to the call and are chosen to lead one of the six lessons will be provided with a small stipend.

“Assembly Row has become a true partner to the arts community here in Somerville over the last several years,” Gregory Jenkins director of the SAC. “This is a chance to have residents and artists come together to showcase a talent and learn from one another.”

All those interested in leading an Art in the Park class are encouraged to contact Lauren Jaffie for more information at info@assemblyrow.com, by Friday, April 18th. You can also learn more details about the program from the Assembly Row’s Facebook page.
