Residential conman
We just had a somewhat bizarre interaction with a stranger.
A man was banging on our door. We consider ours to be a safe neighborhood and so I opened the door.
He introduced himself as a neighbor from across the street (pointing in a vague direction) with three kids.
"You moved in two years ago, right?" He said (Which was incorrect, and put me on my guard).
He started to become incoherent. He claimed to have lost his wallet. Then he claimed to need a jump for his car.
I offered to call the police to assist him. He said that wasn't necessary, he had a phone (he held an iPhone in his hand).
Then he muttered something about needing $10. I said "I'm sorry" and blocked the door.
He then left and I watched him get into a car parked across the street and drive off.
This reminded me of the people on the T who claim to have lost their money and just need $10 to buy a ticket home, but it seemed to me an interesting and somewhat dangerous variation - since a home owner could be armed.
Any how, I would like to hear if other folks have seen this man or had similar experiences.
