Land Disposition Agreement for the former McFadden Memorial Manor Nursing Home Announced

Boston– The Land Disposition Agreement for the long awaited revitalization of the former McFadden Memorial Manor Nursing Home was signed on June 30, 2014, on behalf of the City of Malden by Gary Christenson, Mayor and by Thomas Bierbaum, President and CEO, Volunteers of America Massachusetts for the redevelopment of the former McFadden Memorial Nursing Home. The Land Disposition Agreement leads the way for the non-profit organization to redevelop the former city run nursing home into a vibrant modern assisted living community with specialized memory support care.

The project will incorporate the former McFadden Manor, a 41,000 square foot structure located on 2.6 acres of land located at 341 Forest St, Malden, MA. The redevelopment project will renovate and make substantial improvements to the existing building and grounds as well as the inclusion of a 33,500 square foot addition. The project is envisioned to develop 72 units of mixed income assisted living and memory support care for seniors.

“This agreement represents the culmination of over two years’ worth of work, by City Councilors, City Staff , the Malden Redevelopment Authority and the Volunteers of America Massachusetts team engaging the community and city leaders in the process,” stated Thomas Bierbaum. “This project will create hundreds of construction jobs and permanent jobs for the community. We believe the redevelopment of the former McFadden Manor will have a positive long-term effect on continuing to stabilizing the surrounding neighborhood, as well as create a progressive and safe assisted living program for seniors in the greater Boston area.”
