It’s A Toilet, Not a Wastebasket! Malden Students Win MWRA Writing and Poster Contests

We are pleased to announce that three Malden students have won MWRA’s Annual Poster and Writing Contests.

Nicholas Murray, a fifth-grader at the Linden School, won First Place in the Writing Contest for the third year in a row. His winning essay, “H2O Man Flies Again,” is the latest installment of the title character’s continuing story, which includes “Return of H2O Man" (2013) and the original “H20 Man" (2012).

Gabriela Krupka, grade 3, Linden School, won Honorable Mention in the Writing Contest for her essay. “It’s Just a Toilet!”

Novia Li, a seventh grader at Beebe School, won Honorable Mention in the poster contest.

This year, students across the MWRA service area were challenged to create essays, posters and short videos on the theme of “It’s a Toilet, Not a Wastebasket!” Nearly 4,000 students entered the contest.

MWRA honored the winning students, their teachers and families at an awards ceremony held at the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant on Friday, May 23. Ceremony photos are posted on flickr.
