Chu Porter
I am running for the school committee seat to represent Ward 3 families in the November election. The performance of our public schools plays a pivotal role in all the city's operations. Families choose Malden as their home based on what our school system has to offer. I am running this campaign as the first Asian American woman candidate and promise to make education excellence my top priority.
I offer five working goals to accomplish once I am elected. First, I will work to increase civic participation in the Malden Public Schools. Superintendents, teachers and their representative, parents, Mayor Christenson and all the governing authorities will work together with the best interests of our students in mind to tailor school policies and procedures. Teaching is based on its own merits and we must recognize the best methods for what will work to motivate learning. The best kind of learning is participatory and interactive. Public education cannot afford to overlook issues on dropouts, tardiness, and absenteeism in schools. I will work to tackle the issues underlying special needs, ESL programs, homelessness, and school bullying. Finally, schools in Malden must keep up with the technologies of the 21st century. Accessibility of such technology is vital for increasing opportunities that follow graduation from Malden Public Schools. I will work to earn your support and ask you to vote for me in November 2013.
