"Virtual" Author Visit with Yangsook Choi
Saturday, April 14, 3 - 4pm at the Malden Public Library

The Name Jar by Yangsook Choi is one of this year’s Malden Reads companion book selections for children. It tells the story of Unhei, a Korean girl who moves to the United States with her family. She wants to choose an American name and her classmates help her by suggesting names and putting them in a jar. The story explores the conflict of maintaining one’s cultural identity when assimilating to life in a new country.

On Saturday, April 14, Children will be able to see and talk with the author/illustrator  of The Name Jar, Yangsook Choi, via Skype. (Skype is a special voice/video-over-Internet service.) Choi will talk about her writing, her immigrant experiences and how the The Name Jar came to be. She will also talk about her illustrating process and give a drawing demonstration.  Children are encouraged to ask questions. This event is most appropriate for ages 6-10.
