Last week was an absolute scorcher, and while this week is a little better, you can expect more humidity and temperatures approaching 90 degrees by Friday. For this week’s You Said It, we want to know: Where in Malden do you go to beat the heat? Are you a haunt at Holland Pool on Mountain Avenue? Do you go for picnics in the shade at Pine Banks or Fellsmere Pond? Tell us in the comments section below.
With great restaurants and some long-time stalwarts, Malden Center remains an eclectic shopping destination. But it’s also the constant topic of discussion, because everyone in Malden seems to have an opinion on what the center needs to make it a better retail area. For this week’s You Said It, we want to know: What does Malden Center need to make it a prime shopping destination? More restaurants? Less? Does it need a Starbucks or an independent coffee shop? Tell us in the comments or add your own response video.
Earlier this month, City Councilors Judi Bucci and Gary Christenson presented a simplified residential parking stick program at a public hearing. The new plan would allow residents to get the sticker for free, provided they paid their excise tax in a timely manner. Otherwise, the sticker would cost $10 a year. The program includes a visitor pass program which would allow for out-of-town visitors to park on the street. The stickers would be for street parking; residents and visitors could use private driveways and garages without a sticker. Residents at the hearing were mostly supportive of …

Let us know in the comments section below or add your own response video.

For this week’s You Said It, we want to know: Who makes the best pizza in Malden? Let us know in the comments below or upload your own video response!
Memorial Day is right around the corner. Lots of people talk about that as the unofficial start of summer, but the temperature can betray you. It's really the kickoff of picnic and cookout season, when we slip the surly bonds of our range tops to dine al fresco. For this week's You Said It, we want to know: Where's your favorite spot for a picnic or cookout? Do you stick around in Malden or head to Boston or other locations nearby? Let us know if the comments or upload your own response video!
Last week, the City Council voted to form a committee charged with finding possible locations for a new east side fire station. The envisioned facility would replace the Maplewood Station on Laurel Street, which Fire Chief Michael Murphy closed last month due to health concerns for the firefighters who worked there. The council also touched on the idea of a debt exclusion to pay for a possible new station. Under Proposition 2 ½, cities and towns in Massachusetts cannot increase the total property tax levy by more than 2.5 percent unless the public votes to do so. An override would be a …

On Saturday, April 16 at the Middlesex Fells, volunteers and various organizations—who sometimes disagree over the Fells—came together for Park Serve Day, a statewide day of volunteer service organized through the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). The DCR provided tools, including pick-up sticks, trash bags and work gloves, and sent volunteers into various areas of the Fells for a spring cleaning. So for this week's You Said it series, we stopped by to ask about the event and ask: Why do you visit the Fells? Join the conversation! Log in to post a comment or upload a …
National Grid has taken another step to move its entire operation to Medford Street, and away from its lot on the corner of Commercial and Centre Street. A private group is interested in buying or leasing that lot and three others on the block to build a $35 million baseball stadium, which would house an independent league baseball team. There's no deal in place and no official plan before the city, but Malden officials believe the group is viable and could successfully bring a stadium to town. For this week's You Said It, we want to know: Does Malden need an independent league baseball …
Sure, opening weekend was a disaster, but the Red Sox are still a juggernaut in the American League this year. For this week's You Said It, we want to know: How do you think the Red Sox will do this year? Tell us in the comments or post your own video!
Parking along Pleasant Street in Malden Center is always a hot topic. Many business owners have expressed frustration at the short parking hours allowed, which run potential customers out of the area, and what they consider a lack of enforcement, which allows some scofflaws to tie up spots all day long. For this week’s You Said It, we want to know: What do you think about parking in Malden Center? Tell us in the comments or post your own video!
The weather isn't cooperating yet, but it really is the first full week of spring. Are you just happy you can put the scarves and gloves away? Tell us in the comments or upload your own video!
