Good morning. Suggestion: Ask residents to do more to clean in front of each of their homes and businesses. Working with what we have, it may be useful to encourage residents to take pride in our sidewalks. It's a little issue, that could have a big impact on walkability throughout the entire city, not just major corridors like route 60.

It is a great suggestion Joe and this will be passed along to the Mayor. I'm not sure if you are aware of this but many of the Ward Councillors run a "Clean Sweep" day where residents are encouraged to sweep sidewalk debris onto the street so it gets swept in a special street sweeping drive. Lastly, I would encourage you to talk to your Ward Councillor about your suggestion. Can someone explain to me what exactly walkability means? I'm sure i've logged hundreds of miles walking in this city unencumbered over the last 20 years.

I visit my sister in Malden and the biggest problems are the people. The first people that are the problem are the ones who try to beg money from you and then yell at you if you don't have any to give.
The second are the people who dont keep their bushes and trees trimmed back from the sidewalks and have trash in front of their homes. I feel as an outsider who visits frequently Malden has to handle the scary people who make you feel unsafe and the lazy who don't take care of their property.

Mr. Mayor, I invite you to walk down Cliff Street (Lebanon St. side) some afternoon if you want to see an example of poor walkability. The sidewalks are a disgrace. We're doing our best to keep our houses and yards looking neat on the street, but the sidewalk on the odd side of the street is a patchwork collection of cracks, holes, bumps, roots etc... My wife and young daughter have both taken bad falls in front of our house. When my 2 year old was still in her stroller we would be forced to walk out in the street to get around some sections. There are plenty of kids in the neighborhood today.

We're considering selling our home and moving to a city that will put in at least a little bit of effort in return for the tax revenues that they collect.

Hello, is the city still accepting members for the Committee? I would like to join if possible. I think the city has enormous potential to be walkable everywhere and I would like to see residents staying in the city rather than moving out because they are not happy with these issues. One suggestion I have now based on a recent walk from Malden station up to Bell Rock Park via Main Street is to install pedestrian lights at major intersections like the corner of Main and Charles (on the Bossa Nova restaurant side), the corner of Main and Rte. 60 (on the Walgreens side) and the corner of Summer Street and Pleasant Street (on all sides). I am sure that many residents have already mentioned these spots, but I have not seen any changes in the last 5 years. Please let me know how I can help.
