Tailored For Success - Status Update

Tailored For Success (www.tailoredforsuccess.org) is a nonprofit organization that has been providing career services for job seekers in the Malden community for 12 years.    In addition to providing career services, the nonprofit organization operates a social enterprise project – Tailored Impressions, A Resale Boutique.  This boutique has not only generated much needed operating revenue to the organization, but also provides the community with high quality clothing at reduced prices while serving as an internship/career education site for Malden High School students, job site for the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program, and gives volunteer opportunities to displaced workers.  We have greatly appreciated all the support, encouragement and assistance given by the Malden community and its leaders.

The philosophy of Tailored For Success has always been to treat each client with dignity and respect while serving them in an upscale environment.  It is important that our clients not only get the highest quality clothing, but to do so in an environment that boosts their self-esteem.  Unfortunately, we have not been able to maintan this standard since September due to significant water damage to the space that we rent at 15 Washington Street South.

Therefore, I write this blog to express my sincere apologies that we have not been able to hold regular business hours at our resale boutique or serve clients since September.  The space that we sublease at 15 Washington Street South has been plagued with water problems for several months, but the recent storms have done major damage to the roof.    This has caused loss of clothing inventory, computer equipment and most of all has created a significant obstacle to our ability to serve clients as the constant water damage has created a health hazard. Although the Malden Redevelopment Authority has been very responsive, they do not own the building nor are they responsible for maintenance.  However, it has become clear that the roof will need to be repaired before we can continue to operate out of that location and we sincerely hope that the building owners take care of this situation as soon as possible.

We are working hard to return to our mission of assisting economically disadvantaged individuals who are looking to enter or reenter the workforce.  In the meantime, we ask your patience and understanding as we navigate our way through this transition period.  Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Question: what could Malden citizens do to help out, if anything?

Mike, thank you for your concern. We are having an inventory reduction sale, in case we need to move, starting this Friday which we are hoping the community will support. Stay tuned for more updates!

Thank goodness the charter school isn't renting out the building to you...they would expect you to fix your own roof!

Bless you and all you do to help those who are in need. Hopefully this will bring some attention to your plight and make your landlord do his job.
