Mystic Valley Softball Beats Minuteman
Wednesday night proved to be a special night for the Mystic Valley girls’ softball team. The fans that were lucky enough to attend saw a game to remember. 8th grader Leah Thomas threw a two hitter to beat Commonwealth Athletic Conference opponent Minuteman Tech 6 - 1.
Most impressive during the win was Thomas’ pitch count. In 5 of the 7 innings, she utilized less than 12 pitches to record the three outs including 2 where she needed only 8 pitches.
The Eagles had just come off a difficult loss the night before to Greater Lawrence where the defense wasn't up to its usual level. That was quickly forgotten as the Mystic Valley infield defense (Rachel Tortora at 3rd, Michelle Doherty at SS, Bailey Chiccuarelli at 2nd and Jordan Sullivan at first) recorded 15 infield outs without a miscue. Not to be outdone, senior outfielder Marisa Cagno made a great running catch and throw for a double play to end the game.
The offense pounded out 14 hits including 3 for Sara Marraccino and two clutch RBI hits in the first two innings for junior Rachel Tortora. Cagno, Violet Sullivan, Chiccuarelli and Sullivan all added two hits apiece to round out the offense.
Friday the team will travel to North Shore Tech to hopefully continue its winning ways.
