The Honor Society chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student's outstanding performance in the areas of: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. These criteria for selection form the foundation upon which the organization and its activities are built.
Scholarship: Students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or a higher cumulative average are then eligible for consideration on the basis of service, leadership, and character.
Service: This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit. Leadership: Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
Character: The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.
Mystic Faculty Co-Advisor, Catherine Keane stated that “The 2011-2012 National Honor Society students were busy this school year. They sponsored events within our school community, reached out to our local community and raised money for charity. They were good role models for their peers. They led by example. The National Honor Society board members, Leandra Furtado, Brian O’Connor, Jenna Amari and Ricky Yu, worked especially hard behind the scenes to make sure all events ran smoothly. Ask them about the effort they put into Spirit Week, especially ‘Family Feud,’ and you will understand what I mean. Thank you to all current members and good luck to our seniors. It now time to transition, move forward, and accept a new group of highly motivated students into the National Honor Society. The 17 individuals being inducted into the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s chapter of the National Society exemplify the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership and character that are at the foundation of the National Honor Society. Ms Seymour and I are proud of them. We are looking forward to a busy but productive 2012 – 2013 school year.
