Mystic Valley Freshman Football Plays Hard Against Lowell

The Mystic Valley Freshman Football team lost a tough defensive battle against the Greater Lowell Gryphons 6-0 on Monday.  In the post-game interview Coach Desantis said that “the Eagles played hard once again against a good Gryphon team."

The Eagles defense, staying true to form, created a huge turnover when linebacker Anthony Imbriano intercepted a pass stopping the Gryphons.  The defense also sacked the Quarterback close to the end zone for what looked like a safety, however the officials called it differently and gave the ball to Greater Lowell on the 1 yard line.

The Eagles defense only allowed the Gryphons to have one first down the entire game.  Huge play came from the regular starters but the substitution play of 7th grader “Big “Randy O’Rourke” was outstanding.  “Big” played defense for 5 plays and had 2 sacks and assisted on 2 tackles.

On the offensive side of the ball the Eagles got into the red zone twice but could not punch it in.  7th Grader Peronet Charles played his second game as the starting quarterback like a seasoned veteran. The leading rusher of the day was 7th grader Danzy Briceus.

The freshman Eagles are at 2-4 but according to Coach DeSantis, “This team’s spirit and talent is not about how many wins they have but how hard they play.  With the leadership play of all the freshmen on this team, it brings out the best in the younger talent.”
