Summer Workshop 2011 Premieres Their Video with Red Carpet Flair

During two weeks of August last summer, kids (ages 9 - 14) shared ideas, wrote scripts, sketched out storyboards, learned to use video equipment, worked cameras, directed, acted, and produced material which was edited into a half-hour program that premiered last Thursday night.

It was "red carpet" treatment for the youth from the 2011 Kids Video Adventure Workshop, an annual summer workshop held at MATV. The premiere screening, held at the Malden Senior Community Center, featured a red carpet walk and interviews with the "stars", followed by the screening of the half-hour video which featured a news program, commercials for original products, and an original screenplay.

Instructors Hailey Hao (who edited the program) and Ron Cox co-hosted the event which was attended by Mayor Christenson and many community members, and of course the parents! A Q&A with the young producers followed the screening, where the young people had a chance to reflect on what they learned about what goes into the making of a TV show.

You can now catch the KVA video on MATV Educational Access (Comcast Channel 15 and Verizon Channel 24) at 7:30pm on Mondays, 6:30pm on Tuesdays and 5:30pm on Fridays. Starting April 1st, the Red Carpet Premiere will be playing at 7pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays on MATV Educational Access. Tune in!
